Maharashtra has it all. India’s third-largest state is home to many landmarks and iconic destinations. From Mumbai, a truly cosmopolitan city that is home to the world’s largest film industry as well as the financial capital of India, to the Ajanta and Ellora caves, Mahabalashwar, a quiet and scenic hill station and Nashik, a town that is as famous for its temples as it is for its vineyards. Maharashtra is many worlds in one state.
Upon your arrival at the Mumbai airport, you will be escorted to your hotel. Check in, rest for a while and then go out explore the city of Mumbai. Return later in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast, embark on a half day excursion to Elephanta caves. Located on an island, these caves can be reached via a ferry from the Gateway of India. This rock-cut cave temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Then, in the afternoon, board a cruise back to the Gateway of India. Have lunch and pay a visit to Prince of Wales Museum, Marine Drive, Parliament House and Jain Temple. Return to the hotel in the evening for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, feel free to explore the city on your own accord or take one of our recommended guided walking tours.
After breakfast, set off for Matheran, an undulating hilltop that presents its visitors with the mesmerizing panoramic vistas. Upon reaching, check-in to your hotel. In the afternoon, embark on a guided tour to the major tourist attractions of the place. In the evening, enjoy a boat ride in the Charlotte Lake. Return to your hotel and sleep early for the next day.
On day 5, post breakfast, leave for Nashik, the city located on the banks of river Godavari. On reaching, check in to your hotel. Later in the day, proceed for a sightseeing tour. Alternatively, you may choose to stay and explore one of the famous vineyards of Nashik.
After a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel, drive straight to Aurangabad. On the way, stop at Dhule for Lunch. After checking in, take a leisurely walk through the city.
Next morning after breakfast, get started for a guided tour to the World Heritage site of Ellora caves in the afternoon. These caves showcase strong spiritual influences, with 5 caves dedicated to Jainism, 12 caves to Buddhism and 17 to Hinduism. After a visit to these stunning caves return to Aurangabad for an overnight stay at the hotel.
Next morning after breakfast, leave to visit the Ajanta caves. All paintings show a heavy religious influence and are centred around the Buddha, Bodhisattvas, incidents from the life of Buddha and the Jatakas. After the visit to the Ajanta caves, drive towards Pune. On reaching Pune, check-in at your hotel. Enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Day 9: Pune – Mahabaleshwar
In the morning, enjoy a city tour of Pune. The major tourist attractions to visit in Pune include the Aga Khan Palace, David Synagogue, Pataleshwar Cave Temple and the Shaniwar Wada. If you are spiritually inclined, you may want to skip the sightseeing and head to the Osho Ashram instead. Thereafter, head towards Mahabaleshwar. On arrival, check in at one of listed hotels and have a good night’s sleep.
Post breakfast, set off to explore the beautiful hill station of Mahabaleshwar with pleasant walkways and scenic vistas. The area has interesting historical connections with Shivaji. In the afternoon, visit Panchgani, also a popular hill station and splendidly located. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at your hotel.
On day 11, drive straight to Mumbai early morning. After reaching Mumbai, check-in at your hotel. Get refreshed and rest for a while. In the evening, take a leisurely walk to explore the local markets of Mumbai. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at the hotel.
Post breakfast, leave on time for Mumbai airport to board the flight to your next destination.
